Go drive for Lyft or Uber, go work at Whole Foods, or start pet sitting however simply accomplish something so she could have achievement and rest easy thinking about herself. Willie counseled a few others she knew and trusted and they everything considered her to go accomplish something. Driving for Lyft or Uber would be beneficial for her. Willie sold her games vehicle and purchased a car and began to drive for Lyft. Synchronicity and Serendipity Get Started Willie wants to drive and connect with individuals. She wound up driving for Lyft for 5-6 months. The social associations with clients in her vehicle got her spirits. She had a couple of downright awful episodes with clients however none put her in physical peril. She had the opportunity to deal with her folks and had the option to work out when she needed, which was extremely imperative to her. Her spirits began to lift. At the point when clients got in her vehicle they regularly asked Willie for what good reason she was driving for Lyft. She revealed to them her anecdote about going to coding training camp and needing to turn into a coder and not looking for some kind of employment. Numerous really needed to help however were not in a situation to help. Others gave her intriguing open doors that didn't work out. This prompted some counseling work that took care of Willie's personality. Willie was beginning to like herself once more. She was then drawn nearer by somebody she knew from one of the training camps she went to about assisting with some coding during her maternity leave. Piboidmo Day 17 Whistle While You Write
Blog & website of children's book author Tara Lazar PiBoIdMo Day 17: Whistle While You Write Illustration by Leeza Hernandez Whistle while you write? You might not want to put your lips together and blow, but maybe a little music could lighten your mood…and your mind. Last Sunday at the NJ-SCBWI picture book intensive, illustrator Leeza Hernandez led writers in a creativity exercise by playing random musical selections. The idea was to help us generate ideas. (Sound familiar?) Leeza played two-minute tunes, and during each piece, she asked us to think of a single story element and write whatever came to mind. So let’s try Leeza’s exercise today! Go to Pandora.com. Enter an artist or song. A new music station will be created for you, with songs similar in style to what you submitted. (Aim for instrumental, although music with lyrics will likely pop up. I entered “Vivaldi.â€) Alternatively, you can choose a genre station: classical, blues, dance and a dozen others. Set your timer for two minutes. As the first song plays, focus on element #1 and write. Don’t stop until the timer goes off. New song, #3…and so on… 1. Character 2. Scene 3. Supporting Cast 4. Conflict 5. Emotion 6. Resolution Leeza’s sixth instrumental did not conjure up a resolution for me. Instead, I envisioned a boy on a farm at sunset, herding all the rowdy animals into the barn for the night, only to have them escape again. However, the boy in the musical mayhem was the character I created during the first pieceâ€"and I didn’t even realize it until I was done writing. I subconsciously felt a connection between the two songs. Do I have a story? Maybe. Maybe not. But I do have some ideas that floated out of thin air. (Truth be told, I had just received an advance prototype of Michael Sussman’s IdeaCatcher.) Being an illustrator, Leeza sketched her ideas as the music played. For #6, she drew herself jumping up and down, holding her published book. Keep working on your ideas, PiBoIdMo’ers, and that image may be you, too! So, how’s it going today? Care to share your musical thoughts?

Meaning of jugaad: [noun] A Hindi word meaning an imaginative fix; an ad libbed arrangement conceived from inventiveness and creativity. While enrolling recently recruited employees, HR administrators ordinarily filter applicants resumes for indications of brilliance as confirm by high GPA or the expert articulation of their introductory letter. Keenness is viewed as essential to contending and winning in todays information economy. However organizations need something beyond course reading brilliant specialists to enhance and succeed today. Here are the six employment abilities that HR chiefs in US firms should search for when recruitingfor work capabilities: 1) Resilience: Is the applicant ready to look for circumstance in affliction? In an inexorably mind boggling business condition that tosses a wide range of difficulties at organizations, exhibiting flexibility even with misfortune and going it to ones preferred position is an ability that US firms should critically create. While enrolling, search for recently recruited employees with a demonstrated capacity to reframe the misfortune they face not as a crippling test (or hazard) yet rather a remarkable chance to develop and develop. 2) Frugality: Can the up-and-comer accomplish more with less? Cheap customers and financially savvy contenders are reworking the guidelines of commitment for organizations squeezing them to create merchandise and ventures that are moderate and eco-accommodating. To contend and win in this asset scant condition, firms need inventive workers who can convey more worth utilizing less assets. For example, a competitor going after the job of assembling director must have the option to discover sharp approaches to decrease vitality utilization in the industrial facilities the individual will be running. 3) Flexibility: Is the competitor ready to think and act deftly because of erratic results? To flourish in an exceptionally eccentric condition, organizations need workers who are bosses of adaptability. HR directors must check the capacity of fresh recruits to challenge traditional reasoning, who can think and react quickly: Concoct totally new incentives Test with different approaches to accomplishing their objectives Rapidly react to changing conditions Ad lib new arrangements, and alter their arrangements as they go What's more, your fresh recruits ought to have the option to execute these errands without management. 4) Simplicity: Can the competitor keep things basic without dismissing unpredictability? Tired of unpredictability, buyers are squeezing organizations to disentangle their items and administrations to make them progressively open. Subsequently, firms must hope to enlist RD engineers who can structure adequate however easy to understand items instead of over-designed items that are too mind boggling to even consider using. Also, they have to recruit advertising directors who can improve their client communications to convey an unrivaled client experience. 5) Empathy: Does the up-and-comer have the sympathy to incorporate peripheral (and underestimated) clients? The American white collar class has contracted altogether, and lower salary buyers in the US ought not be disregarded. Numerous organizations attempt to persuade these minimized customers to see the estimation of their current items. Be that as it may, these clients have one of a kind needs serving their necessities requires totally different items, distinctive showcasing procedures and new plans of action. Organizations must comprehend what worth intends to these minimized gatherings or hazard being overwhelmed by contenders who may not be in your space. For instance, Wal-Mart offers essential money related administrations like check getting the money for to the 60 million unbanked/under-banked Americans overlooked by conventional banks. In the event that you are recruiting a deals or showcasing director, be certain that they realize how to serve the requirements of underestimated shoppers. 6) Passion: Can the up-and-comer follow the heart as opposed to simply the psyche? As Dan Pink contends in A Whole New Mind, the left-cerebrums straight, explanatory, PC like deduction constrained by what we call our brain is lacking to enable us to decode, not to mention explore, our undeniably perplexing and vague world. The world has gotten excessively intricate for the brain alone to get a handle on! To prevail in this vague condition, organizations should hope to enlist gutsy representatives who follow their hearts as much as their personalities. These are compassionate applicants who have the fearlessness and the readiness to face challenges, trust their instinct, and are energetic about what they do, accepting that they are seeking after a higher reason all the while. In our book Jugaad Innovation, we show how organizations, for example, 3M, Facebook, GE, Google, PepsiCo, Procter Gamble, and Renault-Nissan have manufactured creative associations that can flourish in todays unpredictable and complex economy. Their mystery? They enlist road keen representatives who gloat the six basic activity skillsabove. Peruse a portion from the bookJugaad Innovation. How Not to Choose a Franchise - Work It Daily
How Not to Choose a Franchise - Work It Daily A portion of the customers I work with are extremely unyielding. They have their thoughts. They comprehend what does and doesn't work. They would prefer not to be diverted by realities. So they form a hasty opinion. One customer felt the best approach to have an effective business was to engage as expansive a scope of clients as could be expected under the circumstances. He thought of his own mantra I need to oblige, not prohibit. Any business he considered was dismissed on the off chance that it didn't fit with this idea. To him, this appeared well and good, and it does appear to be consistent: Why not engage however many clients as could be expected under the circumstances? One explanation not to is possibly it weakens your capacity to center. All things considered, McDonald's doesn't engage individuals keen on top notch food. Another fantasy to bust is an incredible establishment ought to be in a business fragment with little rivalry. Every year, Entrepreneur Magazine distributes a rundown of top establishments. Their best 25 incorporates four inexpensive food organizations and three comfort stores. I don't think about your town, however in mine it appears as though there is a cheap food business at each bustling crossing point, and an accommodation store at a large portion of the corner stores. In the event that there isn't an excessive amount of rivalry in cheap food or in accommodation stores, at that point possibly rivalry isn't really to be dreaded. Perhaps it just methods there is a ton of interest for this administration. Here and there individuals reflexively need to dismiss a business with particular kinds of workers. Commonly I've heard You can't prevail in a business with untalented representatives. They simply aren't solid. That hasn't halted McDonald's however, has it? I've likewise heard precisely the inverse: You can't prevail in a business that requires generously compensated representatives. My point isn't to guarantee that a tight concentration or high rivalry is nothing to stress over. Those are instances of things any reasonable individual should stress over. In any case, stressing doesn't imply that you expect the business is a terrible one. It just methods you have to do some exploration to discover exactly how great the business is. Just a dolt could ever expect an establishment is acceptable, and contribute without doing investigate. It is similarly as terrible of a plan to accept an establishment is a helpless open door without doing investigate. To assist you to out, listed here are 29 questions you'll be able to ask on the finish of every job interview. I came across these on Business Insider. Q1. Who do you suppose can be the perfect candidate for this place, and how do I evaluate? This is an efficient question to ask on the end of every job interview. It helps you end off on getting some early feedback from the interviewer. Q2. Who would I be reporting to? Are those three folks on the identical staff or on different teams? What’s the pecking order? It’s at all times good to know whether or not your reporting line is evident or messy. I typically prefer having a transparent view of the reporting line. Q3. How has this place advanced? Conversational query greater than anything. Q4. How would you describe the corporate’s tradition? This is in my books the vaguest query you'll be ab le to ask on the finish of the job interview. It’s extra of a conversation than really getting anything of value from the reply. Q5. Who do you consider your major opponents? How are you better? Now, be very very careful on asking this question. I DO NOT RECOMMEND ASKING THIS QUESTION. Interviews Are A Two Way Process Are You Doing Your Bit - Margaret Buj - Interview Coach
Interviews Are A Two Way Process Are You Doing Your Bit - Margaret Buj - Interview Coach When it comes to the interview process, the focus is, quite rightly, on how you come across. There are endless articles on everything from how to perfect your handshake, to advice on dressing to impress. And, all these are essential if you want to secure the jobs you go for. But, we often neglect to consider that interviews are a two-way process. Unless you’ve targeted the company, it’s unlikely you know at this stage whether the job would be right. As such, you’re also interviewing the business in a way. It’s not unheard of for people to turn down jobs they’re offered because they didn’t like the company. It also isn’t unheard of for people to leave soon after starting because they’ve chosen a bad fit. The issue there, of course, is that a short role is a messy thing to have on your CV. So, instead of risking a job which isn’t right for you, it’s essential that you interview them as they interview you. Of course, you need to be a little more subtle about it than they do. Hence why we’ve put together a list of the ways you can tell whether a company offers what you’re after. How do they communicate with you? From the off, consider the communications you have with the company in question. Are they open and forward with their efforts to contact you, or do you have to chase them? Do they put you at ease, or leave you feeling as though they aren’t really listening to you? All these things are essential. After all, if you’re working with these people, you’re going to be in constant communication with them. If you struggle to get hold of someone to speak about your interview, it’s a sure sign communication isn’t great. And, that’s not easy to work around when you’re trying to get jobs finished. What’s more, sharp and unwelcoming communications could be a sign that the team are unfriendly. Going further, that could suggest they aren’t happy in their positions. Or, it may be a warning that there’s a close-knit circle, and they don’t like letting people in. Either way, these could be red flags for a workplace you’d struggle to get along in. Equally, friendly communications in the early days could be a good sign that you’d fit right in. Pay attention to how you feel when you get off the phone. It’ll tell you a lot about moving forward. Do a quick Google search It’s also essential you do a quick Google search on the company before your interview. It’s likely you were already doing this with the aim of finding information to drop into answers. But, it serves another purpose, as well. By Googling the company, you can find out about any legal issues and disputes which are in the public domain. And, that could be incredibly telling about what they’re like as an employer. Some of this stuff won’t be available to the public. But, if a disgruntled employee wins a case, it isn’t unusual for the company to be named and shamed. Take particular efforts to see whether they’ve been involved in anything like a national minimum wage investigation. Issues of injury in the workplace are also worth your attention. If you find many cases against your company, you might be better off steering clear. Equally, finding nothing is a sure plus point. Make the most of your chance to ask questions Of course, it isn’t all about what you do before the interview. There will also come a time, in any interview process, where your employer will ask you if you have any questions. And, this is where you can nail this company down. Asking questions work in your favour anyway, as it shows you’re interested and willing. But, it also allows you to ask about things which worry you. Obviously, you need to be subtle and smart here. Firing a lot of accusatory questions is sure to prevent you from getting the job. But, choosing your words wisely and limiting your questions as much as possible is all it takes. There’s nothing wrong with asking about things such as the corporate culture and the opportunities to grow within your role. In fact, such questions would only make it look as though you’re interested. All the while, you can use their answers to get a better feel for the company. And, remember; if you don’t like what they say, you don’t have to accept the role.

How to Tell Your Boss When You Have Burnout - The Muse
Step by step instructions to Tell Your Boss When You Have Burnout - The Muse Step by step instructions to Tell Your Boss When You Have Burnout One day you're squashing it. Conveying ventures, sharing large thoughts in gatherings, getting things going. Before you know it, you're squashed. You feel lost, confounded, and unfit to discover out. You've totally lost your center, and you're simply so depleted. Burnout by and large occurs after a delayed spell of functioning as hard as you can-either without being put or occupied with the work (i.e., you're simply calling it in) or in light of the fact that you mean to convey well beyond desires. Both of these circumstances are dangerous. Sensing that you're specifically contributing, associating with others, utilizing your imagination or whatever your job intends to you-is a stay for the work you do. It's the reason you do what you do. Without individual significance, you'll begin to wear out from constantly devoting yourself completely to the stir and beat of things. You can't continue this sort of detached, negligible work for long. On the off chance that you've made it your crucial work as hard as possible to surpass the desires for your job and your association, will undoubtedly fall into the propensity for accomplishing your work to satisfy everybody around you and tick off the entirety of their containers. Continually concentrating on substantiating yourself and conveying in accordance with desires will leave you battling to keep up. It's debilitating. There are various techniques to manage and travel through burnout, however the mending procedure (since this requires recuperating) regularly begins with one thing-telling your chief. Truly, I realize that is an alarming possibility, yet here are a few different ways to prepare yourself for the discussion and set you up to step forward to move beyond this wild time. 1. Discover a Confidante Prior to conversing with your chief, an incredible initial step is to trust in a companion or talk with your accomplice or a relative about where you are and what you're feeling. The demonstration of verbalizing what's going on, while troublesome, is basic in beginning to get the help you need. Without the consideration of individuals near you, you'll feel alone or on edge about managing it all alone. Similarly as I'm certain you'd need to support a companion or adored one, realize that they need to be there for you as well. Be daring, swallow any pride that is keeping you down, and open up about your breakdown. 2. Anticipate Discomfort Going into the gathering with your chief anticipating that it should be agreeable is ridiculous. You're in a new, undesirable spot, but instead than taking your inconvenience and utilizing it as an explanation not to talk about your battles, you should take a gander at it as the specific motivation behind why you do need to examine it. You can set things up by surrounding it as an essential discussion I trust you realize I wouldn't draw this out into the open except if it was fundamental. Moreover, referencing how hard the discussion is can be a helpful method to call out the obvious issue at hand This is extremely hard for me, but... or It feels extremely difficult to bring this up, but.... 3. Don't Problem Solve You might be accustomed to setting off to your supervisor with refreshes that demonstrate your critical thinking abilities, however this isn't somewhat issue. You don't must have the fix. You don't need to figure out how to cover your remaining task at hand in case you will be out of the workplace, and you don't have to attempt to disclose how you got to this point. Oppose the impulse to offer an answer since you think it'll make you look great to your supervisor. The main significant thing right currently is that you start the recuperating procedure. That starts when you permit yourself to be defenseless when you approach your manager without all the appropriate responses. 4. Put Yourself First In case you're a high-achiever with rigid individual principles, it'll be difficult for you to put your work obligations to the other side and organize your emotional well-being and prosperity. In any case, that is the thing that you have to do to begin traveling through this. Go into the discussion realizing that, while your group will need to do what they can to help you, your manager will probably need to organize the work to keep everything moving along. That implies you can expect some troublesome discussions where you're pulled between making the best choice for you and the correct thing for the work. So let me get straight to the point indeed your essential obligation is to comprehend what you have to begin recuperating, at that point settle on the choice to finish. Tuning in to your body and hearing that voice inside that recognizes what you need implies not adhering to your standard working hours out of a feeling of obligation if your manager appears to be hesitant to let you enjoy a reprieve from all work to recoup. On the off chance that time off isn't offered, be immediate and request what you need-an ordinary work-from-home-day, two days off, possibly a whole week out of the workplace. It might be enticing to present trade offs until you're prepared to be back in the workplace full swing, however that is just putting yourself in danger and deferring the mending. So on the off chance that you genuinely need an entire two days off with no email-ensure you're making that understood. As it were, confide in yourself to settle on choices that work well for you. What's more, know this: If you've been a diligent employee and a steady, gainful representative and your organization thinks about your development and achievement, it will figure out how to see regardless of how bustling things are. Burnout can make a percolating stew of feeling sentiments of not being adequate, similar to you ought to have had the option to maintain a strategic distance from it occurring, that you'll lose all the difficult work you've placed in or that individuals will pass judgment on you-and it's occasionally difficult to tell what direction is up. Your feelings can get flighty or emit out of nowhere, particularly when you begin discussing where you are. In any case, these feelings are a genuine piece of what you're experiencing; they aren't your foe. You may discover tears gushing or your breath staying in your chest as you attempt to locate the correct words. That is OK. Feeling probably won't be a typical some portion of the work environment, however for this situation, it's not out of the ordinary. You don't have to smother them or push them away in light of a legitimate concern for being proficient. So take constantly that you have to inhale and consistent yourself. On the off chance that it assists with diffusing the dramatization, even get it out by saying This is an enthusiastic thing for me or The feeling finds me some of the time. It's not your deficiency this occurred and it very well may be an incredible learning experience, (trust me, I know), however you won't get familiar with any exercises for the time being. For the time being, you should simply take the best consideration of yourself that you can, and believe this isn't the means by which it will be until the end of time.

4 Tips on Turning an Internship Into a Job Offer
4 Tips on Turning an Internship Into a Job Offer Gaining an internship at the company of your dreams is a HUGE win. Never underestimate how big an opportunity it is the intern market is extremely competitive; and for good reason. Snagging an internship is a foot in the door and a chance to prove yourself to your desired employer. It will quite often lead to a job offer. As internships are often unpaid, giving up your time for the company and going the extra mile is noted as a big show of commitment on your part. When roles open up internally or theres bandwidth to make a hire, youll likely get the call up before the job ever reaches the external market. At the end of your internship you should know the systems, the people, the ins and outs of the business. If youve proven yourself properly, the company would be crazy not to bring you on board. Whatever you do, dont let yourself down by treating the internship like extra work. Treat it like a golden ticket to your desired career. Go hard or go home. If you remember to do these 4 things, youll be ordering your morning coffee off of the new intern, quicker than you can say who takes milk? 1. Get in early, and never leave first You wont have to do this for your whole professional life, dont worry. It is, however, important to go the extra mile for the duration of the internship. Getting in early, even if its just by 15 minutes, shows youre serious about what youre doing. Realistically, the extra time wont mean youll get that much work done, but all it does is paint a positive picture of you in the eyes of the management team. Youll also feel a lot calmer and in control if you allow yourself time to settle in before the day kicks off. Likewise, never be the office clock-watcher who is always the first to leave for the day. Your internship is like one giant job interview dont rush in and out like youve got way better places to be. Some people might disagree, but if you arent the only intern, try to be the last one standing every day. Its unlikely multiple interns will get jobs at the end of their time so you need to make sure if an opportunity arises, youre the clear favourite. 2. Remind yourself youre not there yet Dont get too big for your boots. Even if you feel like youre smashing your tasks out of the ballpark, dont let your ego take over. You need to remain humble, yet confident. Employers wont take kindly to big-noting behaviours or demanding asks. Bite your tongue if you feel like youre being babied youre in a period of learning. Be a sponge and soak it all up. 3. Look the part So you mightnt be there yet, but you need to show you could be one day, very soon. Make sure your outfits are in line with what the other staff members are wearing. Dont dress down, just becuase you arent out meeting clients yet or in front of the customer. Taking pride in your professional appearance is important you want your manager to know you take the opportunity seriously and consider yourself ready to step up. 4. Be proactive Yes, you need to stay humble and willing to learn at all times, but you also need to back yourself and be proactive. Dont wait for opportunities to come to you if youve landed an internship, the business has faith that there is a mutually beneficial reason for you being there. Look for projects to get involved in network with the existing employees to see if you can tag along with them to meetings or help them out with something. Offer to look into a new idea on behalf of the company, or do some research you know will help the company. Some companies offer internships, but dont really have the manpower internally to provide you with a one-on-one coach. You will often be left to your own devices, which might seem daunting at the start, but is actually a blessing in disguise. Turn little direction or radio silence into a golden opportunity to use your initiative and prove you dont need your hand held. And finally, NEVER STOP ASKING QUESTIONS. Its the only way you will learn, and managers respect professionals who are inquisitive and concentrated on learning properly, and getting the most out of the experience. If youre made to feel stupid for asking genuine questions, run for the hills you dont want to work there anyway.

How To Organize Your Workday
How To Organize Your Workday The following is a guest post by Jane Stoller. Her bio follows. Getting and staying organized in your daily life will help reduce stress in all areas including your work life. Here are a few simple steps to help keep you more organized at work. Start at home â€" In my book, Organizing for Your Lifestyle, I stress the importance of planning. I relate this to every aspect of my life from closet organization to business projects to travel. To start my workday in an organized way I ensure that the night before I lay out my outfit including accessories and ensure my handbag is packed and any meals prepped. Arriving to work in a calm organized way will help set the tone of the day. Structure your own efficiency My constant theme is, organizing is a lifestyle, but it isn’t a one-size-fits-all. This can directly relate to your workday as everyone has different styles of working. Schedule your day in a way that makes you the most efficient, regardless of your co-workers working habits. Close your door or book a meeting room if you need silence to complete a project. Turn off your smartphone and hold calls if you get easily distracted. Discuss with your boss your working style and find a solution that bests suits you. For myself I try to avoid scheduling meetings over 45 minutes and always try to complete with actions and next steps. I find holding shorter meetings makes everyone get down to business. Get Digitally Organized â€" If you have your blouses perfectly organized by colour, designer and or type why not the same for your computer files. The faster you find your files the less time wasted. Period. Fall in love with your calendar â€" Maybe my Swiss roots are coming through, but my calendar is very organized and it includes, travel, preparation, meetings, project planning, gym, personal appointments, lunch dates etc. Bottom line is if you see it in your calendar it will likely happen at least in my case. Prepare for change â€" Since we are the boss of our own home (usually unless you have roommates, partners, dogs etc.) so we can make our rules. However at the office often tasks are given to us and sometimes spontaneously and that should have been completed yesterday. Being organized should help minimize the stress of last minute changes! Again, “organizing is a lifestyle, but it isn’t one-size-fits-all,†and you can relate that your work day too. My book goes deeper into incorporating organization into your life to help maximize your potential to accomplish more on a daily basis. Its arranged (very meticulously, of course!) into common themes to help you organize your home. From closets to the kitchen to the bathroom and a special chapter for travel which is essential for many globe-trotting women. About the Author Jane Stoller was born and raised in a small town in Ontario, Canada. Her parents immigrated to Switzerland in order to follow their dream of owning a dairy farm. Using Google+ Hashtags for Your Personal Brand - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Hashtags have certainly proven their effectiveness as almost all social media channels have integrated hashtags in their systems. Recently, Google+ took a step in the same direction and introduced hashtags that are closely similar to those used by Twitter and Facebook. It is an interesting addition that will bring changes on how one can promote their personal brand. Even if they have a semblance to Twitter’s, Google+ hashtags have integrated new features. Lets take a look at these changes. Google+ Hashtag’s unique features It works like magic. Hashtags are a fantastic way to categorize posts and capture the attention of readers. It provides convenience because you can add hashtags that will appear on the list or you can also remove them if you need to. With these features in mind, using Google+ hashtags is promising especially when you are managing your personal brand. Here are some of the tips that you can use: Include your own hashtag in your posts. It is best to have a hashtag where your readers can associate you with even if Google+ provides suggestions. Keep it relevant to your topic and carefully choose the first three hashtags that you will provide in your post. The first three will affect what will appear in the searches. If you want to stay on top, provide great content in order for your posts to appear in the “Best of†stream. Be mindful that your post must have interesting titles and catchy visuals in order to attract readers to open your posts as other similar posts also appear beside yours. Readers will not have all the time to check out all the posts even if they are in the “Best of†stream. Therefore, it is important that you share the best content that you can. How to Make it Easy for Executive Recruiters to Want to Work With You - CareerEnlightenment.com
How to Make it Easy for Executive Recruiters to Want to Work With You When you’re job searching at an executive level, it’s probable that you’ll interact with executive recruiters at some point, as many companies hiring at the senior level use search firms to help them find the top talent needed to fill important positions. While executive recruiters can help place you with a company, it’s important to remember that at the end of the day, they are working for the company that hired them, and their number one priority is satisfying their client. To do this, they need to find the best, qualified person for the job who has the most likely chance of working out long-term.Recruiters often receive or seek out the resumes of many qualified job seekers, and when you’re in a competitive industry, finding a way to stand out may seem intimidating. The best thing you can do is make it as easy as possible for recruiters to want to work with you, and accomplishing this starts with making their jobs as easy for them as you can. Here are a few tips to help yo u get on track:Respond to Communication Requests in an Efficient and Timely MannerInitial communication is your first opportunity to demonstrate your punctuality, professionalism, and attentiveness. If a recruiter emails you, do your best to respond quickly and address every aspect of the email appropriately. Being detail-oriented is necessary no matter what industry you’re in, and you can subtly highlight this quality in your initial communication by tending to every point and question that a recruiter reaches out to you about. The same is true for phone calls. If you miss a call from a recruiter, call back as soon as possible (at appropriate hours of course), and if they leave a voicemail, make a note of all of the main points of the message and address those in your call back.Remember, prompt, thorough communication softly suggests that you’re reliable and are serious about the open position.Send Documents in the Specified FormatExecutive recruiters are extremely busy people w ho are juggling multiple tasks simultaneously. Because of this, they have to have their workflow ironed out in a way that will allow them to be the most efficient, and this sentiment extends to how they request documents. For example, if a recruiter asks you to send your CV letter in a Word document PDF file, send it as requested instead of in an RFP file. This sounds simple enough, but many job seekers are applying for positions multiple places, and they send out mass amounts of resumes without noting the details of what each opening specifies.Taking the small amount of time to change up the format is a small way of showing that you can follow instructions and that you respect their time and preferences, two things that matter tremendously in the business world.Be Straightforward With Your ResumeVery few job seekers out there have pitch-perfect resumes. Experiencing employment gaps, suddenly leaving a company without notice, having low levels of experience in a sought-after industry all contribute to why job seekers occasionally bend the truth during the hiring process. In fact, a 2017 report showcased that 85% of employers noticed job applicants lying on their resumes. While that percentage surely is overwhelming, the key takeaway point should be that the fibs were uncovered. Between reference checks, background checks, and interview screening, hiring professionals know how to read between the lines and get to the truth. Honesty is one of the most essential aspects of any relationship, professional or not, so if there is a cause for concern on your resume, it’s best to address it head-on with integrity. Sharpen Up Your ResumeIf you’re using the same resume that you’ve been using for years, it may be time to spend some time refining and polishing it up. Recruiters are well-versed in quickly determining who they should call in for an interview, so it’s important to make sure you follow modern best practices and avoid the most common resume errors executive recruiters notice. To help you get started, here are a few things to keep in mind:Starting your resume with an objective is no longer best practice. Instead, focus on creating a strong and captivating resume summary as well as a title that relates to the position you’re hoping to secure.Be specific with your achievements and experience; vagueness doesn’t make a strong impact.Edit thoroughly for typos.Place your most relevant and recent work experience at the top of the first page of your resume. You want your qualifications to be instantly recognized.Study the job description, and tailor your resume to best highlight how you’d be a solid match.Show Up to Interviews On TimePunctuality is an obvious requirement in the world of job sea rching, but showing up late does more than making a poor impression about your time management skills. An interview is your chance to shine and convince the recruiter that you have what it takes to be a solid addition to their client’s team. There is no guarantee that the recruiter you’re meeting with will be able to extend the duration of the interview if you show up late, so you could be minimizing the time that you have to truly sell yourself or ask any important, clarifying questions.Of course, unexpected things happen, so do your best to leave earlier than necessary, and always give the recruiter a heads up if you’re going to be late.Conduct Some Pre-Interview Company ResearchLearning about the company a recruiter is seeking top talent for goes a long way. It shows you’re serious about the position, and it also will give you some solid talking points that will help make a strong impression. Taking the time to learn about the company’s culture, history, and purpose sen ds the message that you’re not trying to score any job you can get your hands on, but rather, you’re going after the specific job that you want.Even better, use examples of your past experiences and relate those to how you could serve the current needs of the company-in-question. It’s easy to say that you could be an asset, but the more that you can specify how and why you plan to be of service, the more believable that statement will be.Optimize Your Online ProfilesSometimes you’ll be the one searching and applying for a job that a recruiter advertises, but other times, they’re searching for qualified applicants online. Because of this, it’s necessary to make sure that your professional online profiles are optimized enough that you can actually be found when someone searches for a position you may be interested in.Include your job title on your LinkedIn (and any other professional platform you use) as often as possible. Place it in your profile title, in your summary, a nd anywhere else that would be appropriate. The more you optimize your profile around the key search terms that relate to your position, the more likely you’ll be found when a hiring professional is searching for a candidate.Good Luck!Job searching has a tendency to be draining and time-consuming, but hopefully, these tips help narrow down a few ways to make it easier to get the positive attention of any executive recruiters you come in contact with along your way. Like many areas in life, most of your success will come down to being courteous, considerate, professional, and preparedgood luck!
